The Old and The New

So I finally feel like I'm actually getting a little more connected in this small town U.S.A. (thank you country music)...Last night I went out with some friends/some friends of friends for a coworkers birthday. We hit it up in this good ol' town, and went to one of the nicer restaurants in town. It was so nice to feel like I belonged to a small group of people. Even though I really only knew a few of them.
Its funny how when I look back at my past there are many unintentional repeats that I've seen. For instance, around this time last year, probably a little bit earlier in the school year, I was beginning to make friends at Harding. I was new (just like I am here in Abilene) and did not know anyone but because of my roommate, went to a birthday party with friends and friends of friends. Just an interesting repeat.

Anyways, last night was a wonderful time. So even though I miss my friends at Harding so much, I feel like I am finally starting to get adjusted, meet people, make friends and who knows even enjoy Abilene, Texas...

Take that Martha!

So today was pretty gloomy here in good ol' Abilene. Its like a fog has decided to set right in the small town despite what the weather men said about good weather this weekend. But no fear, I went to school, had my one class and then safely returned home out of the chilly air and into the comfort of our lovely home. Since it was a long week, full of midterms and papers, I decided to not get ahead in my work and do something fun. I cooked. Yes, yes, you did hear correctly, cook. Of course I didn't just come up with any old recipe (that could be disastrous) so I stole one from Martha. It's called Mini Pumpkin Whoopie Cookies. They're two chocolate cookies with a cream cheese, pumpkin filling. I must admit, she's quite the cook.

And apparently so am I. Or at least by the looks of it. You know when you make something, and it looks sooo incredibly great that you almost feel badly about eating it?? Yeah. That happened. So although I am yet to taste my beautiful creation, it sure does look pretty darn good. I actually intend on sharing it with a particular friend as well as my parents...from fear they might would kill me in my sleep if I don't. I know for those that are far away this is going to be painful, but I hope that you can appreciate my masterpiece from far away, despite not being able to have a taste. Go COOK!!! If I can, hahahahaha, then youre really an idiot if you can't.

Take That Martha!
I added the decorative Halloween sprinkles myself :) No Big Deal.

The New Is In

So clearly I have not written on this blog in forever!!! I mean, I figured that was going to happen, because I absolutely suck at journaling and since Blogging is just another form of journaling...well yea. Annyways, maybe I'll start writing on this thing again.
Here is my musical interpretation of my feelings, enjoy. :)

The New Is In
By: The Morning Of

It feels like a lover,
I won't see in the morning.
So I keep my eyes open through the night.
I take these things for more than what they're worth.
Call me a hopless romantic, call me just plain pathetic,
I am what I feel, and tonight I don't feel that much.

The new is in, the new is in.
I'm feeling better all ready.
I shed my skin, I shed my skin.
My head is starting to steady.

I'm sorry I won't be reachable for days,
I'm cutting myself off.
Please leave me be in my misery,
I'm making ammends with my concious.

So, come next year I won't be reachable for days,
Because I'm taking time to let this story write it's page.
I'm now convinced that there will be no other way.

Break apart the boy I used to be,
And build the man that I've become.
I am a saint in sinners clothing,
Watch me save the world.
I am a saint in sinners skin,
Now let the healing begin.
Let the healing begin.

I can look myself in the eye now,
I can feel some magic happening.
I can breathe on my own now,
I can feel my body sinking in.
Sinking in, sinking in

Quick Honduras Update

So the past couple days I've been in Honduras and things have been going really well. Friday at the airport was absolutely miserable. It took us more than an hour to get through customs and I was pretty sure I hated Honduras at that point, before actually getting into the actual country. Things went better after that, though. We came back to the place we are staying, which is really nice and had dinner, devo and then were able to sleep!! Very much needed after basically missing a nights worth of sleep. The next day we got up bright and early. The entire group is able to pick between a few activities for the day, I chose building. It was pretty hot and sunny that day but it was cool that we threw up a house (meaning a square wooden shack) in like 4 hours. After that, and after waiting for the bus to come pick us up an hour later, we went to a store run by the woman who helps run the place here. She and another woman have set up this store so that the women of Honduras have a place to sell things they make, making somewhat of a living for themselves.
Sunday we went to a place to have church, but we were far too big for the building so a lot of us just sat outside. After church we went to the mall and then to Los Angeles (no not in California), which has a lot of toursity shops. It was fine, but I didn't really do much shopping...not really too interesting. We got dinner after that and then came on home for devo and then bed.
Today was the most difficult day by far. I chose building again and there were times that I thought I might die. We have to lug the wood to the site everytime and unfortunately today's site was straight up hill. I mean straight UP HILL!! We still finished in very good time though. So I don't have a lot of details to throw out right now, but its been a good time so far. It is hard that I can't really talk to any of the people but I'm pretty sure they're appreciative. A lot of the kids near the sites we build, help out. I'm always impressed by how much they can carry, and they're like 8 years old.
I'll try and update some more later.

MUFFINS!!

So this morning Stephen made us muffins. Wonderful, inexpensive, tasty chocolate chip muffins. It was a wonderful breakfast. Usually you make these in an oven. However, his oven is M.I.A and so he resorted to the lovely toaster oven. Surprisingly, the were just as enjoyable. We are both quite poor, thus our meals mainly consist of cheap "just add milk" muffins, and 15 cent packs of ramen noodles. Oh to live on your own and have such fine cuisine. But hey, I'm not complaining. Stephen and I have plenty of fun making our treats :)
Going...
going.....gone!!!!

Summertime

I feel that I can say it is officially summer for me because I went swimming yesterday. Not just sit by the side of the pool and pretend that I might possibly get in the pool, but actual swimming. Me, Stephen, Billy and Tim went to the pool in my apartment complex, it was such a nice day out!! We swam around and threw the Frisbee to each other while the person was jumping into the pool. Ah summer, thank God you are here.

Books

So yesterday I went to the mall, just to look around, perhaps purchase something. And I did. Although it was something that most who know me would be quite surprised that it was a couple books. Yup books. Those things you read. I bought To Kill A Mockingbird and the first two books of the Wicked series, Wicked & Son of a Witch. I thought these would be good summer reads. I have obviously read To Kill A Mockingbird, its my all time favorite book (I mean come on, my dog Scout is named after the main character:
Anyway, I thought this would be a fun-by-the-pool-in-the-summer kind of read. I have never read the Wicked books but I'm hoping they'll be enjoyable. My old roommate Jana read them and seemed to like them, although I think they are quite a bit darker than the musical, which of course I love!! I'll be sure and let you know how they turn out.
GO SUMMER READING!!
